CSA Group Breaks Ground on Expansion for Explosives Atmosphere Test and New Windows and Door Labs in Edmonton

CSA Group, a leading global provider of standards development and testing and certification services, announced today it will be expanding its hazardous locations laboratory in Edmonton, Alberta.  The new expanded lab will specialize in testing and certification services for hazardous locations such as equipment used in oil, gas, mining, marine and fertilizer production. In addition, CSA Group is also building its first facility capable of testing windows and doors to meet changes to the updated National Building Code.  Both labs will be opened for testing in September, 2014.

“We are very excited to start to build our new labs in Edmonton. CSA Group is a world leader in explosive atmosphere testing. We are expanding our services for hazardous location testing and certification to meet the growing needs of the oil and gas industry in Canada,” said Ash Sahi, CSA Group President and CEO. “We will continue to develop leading standards and build world-class facilities to meet the needs of our clients locally, and around the world.”

The addition to the explosive atmosphere testing lab will allow customer testing of large and heavy samples year-round and include new thermal condition chambers allowing multiple synchronized testing. The expansion will double the testing capacity of the lab to provide more localized service for the increasing needs for explosive atmosphere testing and certification in Alberta and North America.

“We are also adding a new windows and doors lab to meet the needs of manufacturers who will be required to have their products tested for compliance under the updated National Building Code,” said Nashir Jiwani, CSA Group Regional Vice President, Canada. “The changes to the Code will mean every window, door and skylight sold in Canada will have to be certified. Our new lab will provide added value to our clients and as they achieve the necessary certifications for Canadian markets.”

CSA Group provides hazardous locations testing and certifications for North America, the European Union, ATEX and IECEx certification. CSA Group has a skilled team of professionals in Edmonton with expertise in explosive atmosphere testing and is a recognized leader in hazardous locations services worldwide. The Edmonton lab currently provides explosion-proof testing and will increase this capacity and add the ability to provide electrical equipment and mechanical equipment testing. CSA Group also has hazardous locations testing facilities in the United Kingdom, United States and China.
