CSA Group Issues Safety Notification for Direct Users of CSA Z662-15

Correction has been made to Annex K

Toronto, July 22, 2016 – CSA Group, a leading standards development organization and global provider of testing, inspection and certification services, notifies direct users of CSA Z662-15 that changes were made to the formula in Annex K used to determine critical imperfection size.

Clause K.5.3.4.3.1, dealing with critical imperfection size, was published by CSA Group in June 2015 contained an error that had the potential to direct users to calculate allowable critical imperfection sizes larger than if calculated using the correct equation, leading to an over estimation of acceptable imperfection sizes which could adversely impact safety. CSA Group published an errata in March 2016.

Original Equation:

m2 = 0.00416 – 2.18η – 0.155η

New Equation:

m2 = 0.00416 – 2.18η + 0.155η2

CSA Group recommends that any projects that may have used the Annex K with the equation in its original form be recalculated using the revised equation and an assessment be completed to determine if any further action is necessary.

Anyone who has purchased the standard prior to the change and has not received the errata, please contact your vendor to obtain a copy. CSA Group provides notifications for on-going amendments to its standards. To receive notifications, please click here and follow the instructions.
